Grace periods of premium payment for designated medical and critical illness policies extended to 180 and 365 days
In addition to the special benefits and claims measures introduced earlier in response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, FWD Hong Kong (“FWD”) has enhanced the “Extension of Premium Payment Grace Period” of designated individual medical and critical illness (Note) policies for customers who are either diagnosed with COVID-19 or are facing involuntary unemployment.
“FWD is committed to providing comprehensive support to our customers, and we have been constantly reviewing and optimising our benefits and offerings,” said Kelvin Yu, Chief Product Officer of FWD Hong Kong & Macau. “The worsening economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak could cause the unemployment rate to deteriorate. We need more facilitative measures in place to help our affected customers alleviate the financial burden they face with coverage remains in place, especially in these challenging times.”
According to the enhanced “Extension of Premium Payment Grace Period”, customers of designated FWD individual medical or critical illness insurance plans (Note) whose policies have been in force on or before 9 March 2020, and who are diagnosed with COVID-19 or are involuntarily unemployed for over 30 consecutive days within 9 Mar 2020 and 30 June 2020 (both dates inclusive) will be entitled to the following premium payment grace period extension:
Designated individual medicalpolicies (Note): 180 days maximum, and/or
Designated individual critical illness policies (Note): 365 days maximum;
When customers apply for policy reinstatement (for policies terminated due to overdue and unpaid premium payment), the related health declaration or policy loan interest will be waived (if applicable).
